John Merigliano works as a freelance graphic designer,
artist, and teacher in Philadelphia. Some of his clients
include IKEA, Drexel University, Westinghouse Lighting,
and the Tibetan Buddhist Center of Philadelphia. As a
college instructor, he has taught digital media and design communication classes at Salem Community College (NJ), Wilmington College (DE), and La Salle University (PA). He has also taught drawing
and visual literacy classes at the University City Arts League; his logo design for this organization is currently in use on their website and supporting materials.
Born in 1970 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he attended the University of the Arts in
1989-90 where he completed his foundation studies in art + design. He
moved back to NY and completed his BA degree in 1993 at Purchase College (S.U.N.Y.), majoring in Philosophy. Subsequently, John worked various jobs
but mostly as a taxi driver in NY (a formative experience) for two years. He retutrned to the University of the Arts and in 2000 completed his MA in Art Education. He has exhibited visual art nationally and has worked as an artist
in residence at the University of Minnesota. Some noteworthy exhibitions have taken place at the Center for Emerging Visual Artists as part of their Regional Community Exhibitions Program. The Drawing Center (NY) has included his drawings in their viewing program. His most recent project has been the creation of a video work using drawings and animations for the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Minnesota. This project was a collaboration with Minnessota-based composer Justin Rubin; please see the projects page for details.
